Program Description

UAF’s fully online political science degree develops engaged citizens capable of making major contributions to their communities in Alaska, elsewhere in the United States and across the globe. This program advances political knowledge and theoretical, methodological, and analytical skills that are transferable to a variety of fields in both the private and public sectors.

As the academic discipline that studies power, political science explains how ideas, institutions, rules, processes and interactions influence ‘who gets what, when, where and how’ in political life.

You will learn the causes and consequences of entrenched power relationships, value systems and political behavior in a variety of political contexts and geographic regions. Politics is an omnipresent force that exists not only in governments but also in families, social organizations, schools and decision-making bodies of all types, from student councils to international institutions.
