50845 2021-05-17 to 2021-08-06 This course examines the origins and development of key social, political, economic and cultural trends in Western civilization from 1500 to the present. Topics to be examined include the Reformation, the scientific revolution, the Enlightenment, the French and Industrial revolutions, nationalism, imperialism, communism, fascism, World Wars I and II, and the Cold War. Students will learn how to read and interpret historical documents, how the interplay of historical factors conditions subsequent events and different approaches and perspectives for understanding the past.
