UAF offers free, online short-term courses via edX, a leading global online learning platform. Students can choose from 23 online courses including Salmon, People, and Place, a finalist for the 2022 edX prize for Innovation in Online and Teaching. The course was developed by Peter Westley, an associate professor in the UAF College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences.

“Working with eCampus to launch Salmon, People, and Place on edX has been the highlight of my teaching career thus far. This platform is the ideal way to share the power of people’s relationships with salmon to the world,” Westley said.

All edX courses are four to eight weeks long and are available for free, or learners can choose to pay a small fee for a certificate that verifies course completion.
