The University of Alaska (UAF) eCampus is committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, including individuals with disabilities, and that complies with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (29 USC 794 and its implementing regulations at 34 CFR Part 104) and with Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (42 USC 12131 and following, and implementing regulations at 28 CFR Part 35). This website has been developed to conform to the best practices and criteria defined in the W3C’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA and the Web Accessibility Initiative Accessible Rich Internet Applications Suite (WAI-ARIA) 1.0 techniques for web content.

UAF eCampus is committed to preventing and removing barriers to accessibility. These are the steps we’re taking.
- We regularly offer faculty development opportunities on designing course structures and materials that are equitable for students with disabilities.
- We work closely with the UAF Office of Disability Services to respond to specific requests for digital accommodations, but also advocate for proactive changes that increase accessibility for all.
- The instructional design team is trained in universal design for learning and encourages faculty to build their courses according to those best practices.
- eCampus researches and assists in funding tools and services that promote accessibility, including professional captioning.
Web Accessibility Monitoring
The WAVE Web Accessibility Evaluation Tool is used to check the accessibility of newly authored pages, in conjunction with other audit tools such as SiteImprove, and the WP Accessibility WordPress plugin. Videos are professionally captioned, and new documents are checked with the Adobe Acrobat Pro Accessibility Checker or the Grackle Docs extension.
As of Summer 2022, several of the eCampus domains are undergoing significant redesign. These measures include migrating to a new WordPress Theme, auditing and removing legacy content, and making changes to menus and navigation. Accessibility will remain a primary consideration in this process.
