Eric LonnEric is our awesome media designer at eCampus, creating videos for online courses and maintaining studios across campus. Lately, he’s been diving into educational game design projects. Eric’s varied background, from news production to video ads, makes him a versatile video pro. And did we tell you he has the best nail polish collection at eCampus?

Q: What do you do at eCampus?

A: I’m a media designer, which means I create all sorts of materials for online courses, but primarily I produce videos. I also maintain the studios we have all over campus. I’ve also been working on some educational game design projects that will be embedded in courses.

Q: How do you work with students?

A: While my work usually has me working with faculty and staff, I love any chance I can get to work with students. I’ve helped produce student presentations, given tours of the studio, and even guided students in building board games in a game design workshop. I’m hoping I’ll have more opportunities to work with students in the future.

Q: How can students connect with you?

A: Email me! It’s eglonn@alaska.edu. If you have any questions about video production or game design, send me an email. I can at very least point you towards some resources that will help.

Q: What do you like about working at UAF eCampus?

A: I feel incredibly lucky to work here. I get a chance to experiment with things I’m interested in, work with great people, and contribute to the education of our students. It’s immensely gratifying.

Q: What led you to this career?

A: I’ve held various positions through my career that have taught me so much. I’ve directed and produced local broadcast news, fielded customer support questions for a video effects software company, and, most recently, produced video ads for local businesses. All of these roles have helped hone me into the video production generalist I am today.

Q: What’s one thing you’re learning now or learned recently?

A: I’ve been learning about small engine repair, as my lawn mower and my backup lawn mower have both given out on me.

Q: Do you collect anything?

A: Lawnmowers, apparently.
