UAF eCampus is a team of troubleshooters, and Capra has risen to the top. He’s a quick study – making sense of everything from computer servers to Canvas. Capra is also skilled at understated humor. If he answers the phone when you call eCampus, ask him to tell you the joke about the three lawyers.
Q: What do you do at eCampus?
A: I help run the Exam Services front desk, handling incoming exam requests and emails, proctoring for UAF and community exams, and helping students/staff/faculty solve all kinds of issues.
Q: How do you work with students?
A: I proctor their exams, but most of my time is spent helping students troubleshoot a wide variety of issues. I teach students how to navigate Canvas, UAOnline, and in general help however I can.
Q: How can students connect with you?
A: If you want to reach me directly the best way is by email (cgedwardssmith@alaska.edu). You can call eCampus at 907-455-2060 or pop into our office in Bunnell 131. If you happen to spot me on campus, don’t hesitate to say “Hi!”.
Q: What do you like about working at UAF eCampus?
A: I enjoy the people most. My coworkers are an excellent team and are always willing to teach me new skills. Learning how Canvas works from the instructional design team has been super useful for helping faculty troubleshoot.
Q: Besides being a staff member at UAF eCampus, what’s your history with UAF? Are you taking classes?
A: My history with UAF is certainly a tale. I started as a full-time student in January 2020 right before things got weird. Since then I’ve been a mix of a part- and full-time student. I started working at Exam Services in February 2023. This semester I am taking my last class to finish my Associate of Science. Not quite sure what I’ll be doing next, but I’ll be doing it here.
Q: What’s your favorite game to play?
A: I’ll split this into two sections: online and in person. In person I absolutely love playing trivia at the Pub. Teambuilding and problem solving is my favorite. Online I enjoy playing Destiny 2, again for the teambuilding and problem solving. Hit me up if you need a team to raid with.
Q: What topic could you give an hour-long presentation on with little to no preparation?
A: There are several items I could speak for too long about. My favorite would be car history. I would love to cover the engineering behind them and how it has evolved over time.
