We’re fortunate to have a fellow staff member who’s incredibly creative and has an amazing talent for drawing birds, with a remarkable attention to detail that brings them to life on paper. Whether we’re brainstorming ideas or admiring her beautifully crafted avian art, working with Shayla is always awesome.
Q: What do you do at eCampus?
A: I am a graphic designer…I make things look nice! I do a wide variety of projects each week depending on what the team needs. This can include anything from flyers to logos or even illustrations to coloring pages. I also do some of the social media outreach as well.
Q: How do you work with students?
A: I don’t directly work with students, however, I reach them through the graphics I make for the eCampus team. I also help in the makerspace every week
Q: How can students connect with you?
A: I can be found in the makerspace on Thursdays, but I can be reached online anytime if you have any art or bird-related questions.
Q: What do you like about working at UAF eCampus?
A: I like the people I work with and how flexible the job is. Everyone is so kind and open to knew ideas. I feel like my creativity is welcome in the workspace. I still work mostly remote which means I can have my chicken nearby while I work. Plus what artist doesn’t like having an art job?
Q: How long have you been doing art?
A: I have been doing art since I can remember, but I decided to try and make it a career in 2015 after I took the comics class from Jamie Smith. Eight years later I’m finally making it happen!
Q: What is your favorite medium to work with?
A: I like to work in a combination of ink and watercolor! I like the control that ink gives me, but I also like how flowy the colors get with watercolor…depends on what I feel like drawing.
Q: What do you do with your free time?
A: In my time outside of eCampus I do my freelance work, play video games, and spend time with my chickens.
