Tips for Being a Successful Student

Log in to your course before the first day of class

UAF instructors use Canvas for their online courses. Logging in before the semester starts will allow you to familiarize yourself with the system.

Create a schedule

All eCampus courses are asynchronous, meaning there are no set meeting times. Using a calendar will help you keep up with assignments and assessments throughout the semester. We recommend utilizing your Google Calendar.

Identify a proctor

Some courses require proctored exams, meaning a neutral, third-party person will verify your identity and supervise the exams. Check your syllabus to see if any of your courses have this requirement. If so, find a proctor early in the semester to avoid late exams. Detailed information on how to do so can be found here.

Engage with your online community

Your classmates could be located throughout the world and each provides a unique perspective to the topic at hand. Take advantage of the opportunity to learn from your peers — and don’t be shy, stay in touch!

eCampus is a tight-knit group of people who are educators, readers, artists, gamers, bakers, writers, knitters, builders, adventurers, runners...we're adding to this list every day! There's usually laughter in our department meetings, and our potlucks are pretty epic.
