You’ve Graduated…Now What?!

Graduation is just around the corner, and maybe you are one of the lucky ones who will earn your UAF degree next month. Congratulations!

But have you figured out what you will be doing after graduation? Are people asking what you plan to do with your degree? You might finally have to answer that timeless question: What do you want to be when you grow up? 😊 These are all important questions to ask yourself as you transition from college student to college graduate!

For most of you, the last few years have been dedicated to taking classes, attending labs, studying for tests, and writing papers. Some of you are planning to continue your education by starting a master’s degree or PhD, but many of you will need to start looking for a professional job now that you have earned your bachelor’s degree. A wonderful resource that can help you is UAF Career Services. All students, staff, faculty and UAF alumni have access, and best of all, their services are free!

Not only can you search for open jobs and internships on their website, but you can meet with a career advisor to discuss your interests, get help with writing a resume and/or cover letter, and hone your interviewing skills. They also hold three major career fairs throughout the school year – one in the fall semester and two in the spring semester. Another service they are hoping to add this coming Fall semester is a “Career Closet” in which students can access professional attire at no cost.

UAF Career Services is open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and their office is located in Eielson Building 304. If you are not in the Fairbanks area, all career advising appointments can be held by Zoom. The best way to contact them is by email at uaf-career@alaska.edu or by phone at 907-474-7596. They can also be found on Instagram.
